Human Trafficking Awareness Program

Helping People Recognize Grooming, Exploitation & Human Trafficking Before It Happens

REQUEST THIS PROGRAM

Quick Facts

Program Details

Program Overview

Human trafficking is one of the fastest-growing crimes in the world, yet many young people and adults are unable to recognize the warning signs until it is too late. The Jane Doe Foundation's Human Trafficking Awareness Program is an engaging, trauma-informed educational program designed to help participants recognize grooming behaviors, online exploitation, trafficking tactics, and healthy relationship boundaries before exploitation occurs.

Through interactive discussions, real-life examples, survivor-informed education, and practical safety strategies, participants learn how traffickers target vulnerable individuals, how social media and technology are commonly used for recruitment, and what steps they can take to protect themselves and others. The program encourages critical thinking, empowers participants to trust their instincts, and promotes safe decision-making without relying on fear-based messaging.

Designed for schools, youth organizations, community groups, nonprofits, parents, educators, businesses, and healthcare professionals, this program can be customized for different audiences and age groups. Whether presented as a one-time workshop or expanded into a multi-session curriculum, participants leave with increased awareness, practical prevention skills, and confidence in recognizing and responding to situations that may place someone at risk.

Learning Objectives

 Participants will learn how to:

✔ Recognize grooming behaviors

✔ Identify trafficking warning signs

✔ Understand online safety

✔ Build healthy boundaries

✔ Report concerns safely

A more interactive experience that allows participants to explore trafficking prevention, healthy relationships, online safety, boundaries, and warning signs through group discussions, activities, and practical exercises.

Full-Day Training

Designed for organizations seeking comprehensive education, this full-day training provides an in-depth look at human trafficking, victim vulnerabilities, trauma-informed approaches, prevention strategies, reporting procedures, and community response. Ideal for educators, nonprofits, healthcare professionals, law enforcement, and community organizations.

Why This Program Matters

Young people are exposed to grooming and exploitation earlier than ever before through social media, gaming platforms, messaging apps, and in-person relationships. Education is one of the strongest prevention tools available. This program equips participants with practical knowledge and real-world skills that help them recognize warning signs, make safer decisions, and know where to turn for help.

Topics Covered

Our Human Trafficking Awareness Program is customized for the age and needs of each audience while providing practical, survivor-informed education that empowers participants to recognize warning signs, make informed decisions, and help prevent exploitation before it occurs.

Healthy Relationships

Participants learn the characteristics of healthy, respectful relationships and how they differ from unhealthy or controlling behaviors. Discussions focus on communication, respect, consent, trust, and recognizing behaviors that may become manipulative or abusive.

Grooming Behaviors

Learn how traffickers and other offenders build trust, manipulate emotions, and gradually exploit vulnerabilities. Participants explore common grooming tactics used both online and in person while learning how to recognize red flags before exploitation occurs.

Online Safety & Social Media

Technology has changed the way traffickers identify and contact potential victims. This section teaches participants how to protect their personal information, recognize online manipulation, practice safe social media habits, and respond appropriately to suspicious online interactions.

Human Trafficking Awareness

Participants gain a clear understanding of what human trafficking is, who can become a victim, common misconceptions, and how trafficking occurs in communities across the United States. The program emphasizes awareness, prevention, and practical education rather than fear.

Risk Factors & Vulnerabilities

Participants explore how factors such as isolation, low self-esteem, family conflict, homelessness, substance use, previous trauma, and unmet emotional needs can increase vulnerability to exploitation. Understanding these risk factors helps build empathy while promoting prevention.

Setting Healthy Boundaries

Strong personal boundaries are one of the most effective protective tools. Participants learn how to establish boundaries, communicate them confidently, recognize when boundaries are being violated, and seek help when something feels wrong.

Digital Exploitation & Sextortion

This section discusses the growing risks associated with online exploitation, image-based abuse, sextortion, and digital coercion. Participants learn strategies to protect themselves online and understand what to do if they or someone they know becomes a target.

Bystander Awareness & Safe Reporting

Participants are encouraged to become active bystanders by recognizing warning signs, supporting friends safely, and understanding appropriate ways to report concerns to trusted adults, school personnel, or law enforcement when necessary.

Building Confidence & Protective Factors

Prevention begins long before exploitation occurs. This section focuses on developing self-confidence, decision-making skills, healthy support systems, critical thinking, and resilience that help reduce vulnerability and strengthen personal safety.

Ohio & National Resources

Participants receive information about trusted organizations, hotlines, community resources, and reporting options available in Ohio and nationwide so they know where to turn if they or someone they know needs help.
