About The Jane Doe Foundation

Read Wendy Pesante’s Story

A Survivor-Led Ohio Nonprofit Providing Trauma Education, Advocacy, Prevention & Community Support

The Jane Doe Foundation is a survivor-led Ohio 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to helping individuals, families, schools, and communities through trauma-informed education, prevention programs, advocacy, resource navigation, and community partnerships. We believe lasting change begins with education, compassion, and empowering people with the knowledge and resources they need to move forward.

Why We Chose the Name "Jane Doe"

Why We Chose the Name "Jane Doe"

Why We Chose the Name "Jane Doe"

For many survivors, the name "Jane Doe" represents anonymity, protection, and the courage to share difficult experiences without fear of judgment.

To us, "Jane Doe" also represents hope, the belief that every person deserves to be seen, heard, believed, and supported, regardless of their background or life experiences.

We chose this name because it symbolizes every child, adult, survivor, family member, and community member whose story matters. Whether someone is overcoming trauma, abuse, addiction, mental health challenges, exploitation, or other hardships, they deserve dignity, compassion, and the opportunity to heal.

At The Jane Doe Foundation, we believe every story has value. Every voice deserves to be heard. Our mission is to educate, empower, connect, and inspire hope while helping build safer, stronger communities throughout Ohio and beyond.

Our Vision & Why We Exist

Why We Chose the Name "Jane Doe"

Why We Chose the Name "Jane Doe"

Every day, individuals and families face trauma, abuse, addiction, mental health challenges, exploitation, incarceration, and other difficult life experiences. Too often, they don't know where to turn for trustworthy information, community resources, or supportive services.

The Jane Doe Foundation exists to bridge that gap by providing trauma-informed education, prevention programs, advocacy, resource navigation, and community partnerships that empower individuals and strengthen families.

We envision communities where education replaces fear, prevention reduces harm, survivors feel supported, and every person has access to the knowledge, resources, and opportunities they need to build a healthier future. Together, we believe we can create lasting change through compassion, collaboration, and hope.

Our Core Values

How We Make A Difference

How We Make A Difference

Everything we do is guided by values that reflect our commitment to serving individuals, families, and communities with compassion, integrity, and purpose.

  • Compassion – Meeting people where they are with kindness, empathy, and respect.
  • Empowerment – Providing education, encouragement, and resources that help individuals regain confidence and move forward.
  • Integrity – Acting with honesty, accountability, and transparency in everything we do.
  • Advocacy – Using our voices to educate, raise awareness, reduce stigma, and promote positive change.
  • Hope – Believing that healing, recovery, and personal growth are always possible.
  • Community – Building strong partnerships and ensuring that no one has to face life's challenges alone.
  • Education – Sharing accurate, practical, and evidence-informed information that helps prevent harm and strengthen communities.
