Have Questions About Getting Support?

We know asking for help can come with a lot of questions. Below are answers to some of the most common questions about The Jane Doe Foundation's support services, eligibility, referrals, and what to expect when you reach out.

Our services are designed for individuals and families facing difficult life circumstances, including trauma, abuse, exploitation, addiction and recovery, reentry after incarceration, financial instability, and other barriers to long-term stability. Eligibility may vary depending on the specific service requested.

Many of our direct support and resource-navigation services are focused on individuals and families in Ohio. However, we may be able to provide educational resources, general guidance, or referrals to national organizations for individuals outside Ohio.

Our goal is to make support as accessible as possible. Many Foundation support services are provided at little or no cost to participants. If a particular service involves a fee or outside provider cost, we will explain that before any commitment is made.

Complete the Request Services form on this page and provide as much information as you are comfortable sharing about the type of assistance you need. Our team will review your request and determine what resources, referrals, or Foundation services may be appropriate.

A member of our team will review your request and may contact you for additional information. Depending on your needs, we may connect you with a Foundation service, provide resources or referrals, or help you identify appropriate community organizations.

No. Submitting a request does not guarantee services, financial assistance, transportation, placement with a provider, or acceptance into a particular program. Assistance depends on individual circumstances, available resources, program capacity, eligibility, and the Foundation's scope of services.

The Jane Doe Foundation is not a substitute for licensed medical, mental health, substance-use, or other clinical treatment. When professional treatment is needed, we can help individuals identify appropriate licensed providers and community resources.

Yes. Our Treatment & Provider Referral services can help individuals identify mental health, substance-use treatment, trauma-informed, and other appropriate providers. We provide referrals and navigation assistance but do not guarantee availability, eligibility, acceptance, or treatment outcomes.

No. The Jane Doe Foundation is not an emergency response organization, crisis center, law-enforcement agency, or emergency shelter. Anyone experiencing an immediate emergency or danger should contact the appropriate emergency or crisis service in their area.

Yes. Our Reentry Navigation Support can help individuals identify resources related to housing, employment, treatment, community services, recovery support, and other needs that may arise when rebuilding life following incarceration or involvement with the justice system.

No. The Foundation does not act as a law firm and does not provide legal representation or legal advice. Our Court & Legal Support services may include resource referrals, advocacy, emotional support, and assistance understanding how to locate appropriate legal or court-related resources.

Court accompaniment may be available in certain circumstances and depends on volunteer or staff availability, location, safety considerations, and the nature of the request. Court accompaniment is for support and does not constitute legal representation.

The Foundation's Financial Literacy & Planning services focus on skills such as budgeting, credit education, saving, and financial goal setting. Direct financial assistance is not guaranteed. When possible, we may help individuals identify community programs that provide financial assistance.

Yes. Through Resource Coordination, we can help individuals locate community resources for needs such as food, housing, recovery support, mental health services, employment assistance, transportation, and other essential services.

Limited Transportation & Appointment Support may be available depending on location, circumstances, funding, volunteer availability, and program capacity. We may also help identify public transportation, community transportation programs, or other transportation resources.

Peer support provides encouragement and practical guidance from someone who understands difficult life experiences or recovery from a lived-experience perspective. Depending on availability, support may include accountability, encouragement, resource guidance, and help working toward personal goals. Peer support is not therapy or professional clinical treatment.

Life Skills Coaching focuses on practical skills that can support greater independence and stability. Topics may include communication, time management, decision-making, healthy routines, organization, personal responsibility, problem-solving, and other everyday skills.

Advocacy and system navigation help individuals better understand complicated systems and available resources. Depending on the situation, we may help someone identify appropriate healthcare, legal, social-service, recovery, or community resources; understand application processes; prepare questions; or determine possible next steps.

Yes. Our Goal Setting & Future Planning support can help individuals identify personal goals and develop realistic steps toward them. Areas may include education, employment, recovery, personal development, stability, and longer-term planning.

You can still reach out. If your needs are outside our scope, we will make reasonable efforts to identify other organizations or community resources that may be better equipped to assist you. A referral does not guarantee that another organization will have availability or determine that you are eligible for its services.
