Quick Facts

Program Details

Program Overview

Breaking Cycles is a trauma-informed prevention program designed to help young people recognize how past experiences, personal choices, relationships, and environmental influences can shape their future. Rather than focusing on mistakes or labels, this program empowers participants to understand that they have the ability to make positive choices, overcome adversity, and create a different path for themselves.

Through engaging discussions, interactive activities, and real-world examples, participants learn practical skills that strengthen emotional resilience, improve decision-making, build healthy relationships, and develop confidence in their ability to overcome life's challenges. The program encourages self-awareness, accountability, and hope while helping participants recognize that difficult circumstances do not have to determine their future.

Designed for schools, juvenile justice programs, mentoring organizations, youth groups, community agencies, and prevention initiatives, Breaking Cycles provides practical tools that help young people build resilience, strengthen protective factors, and create healthier futures for themselves and those around them.

Why This Program Matters

Many young people grow up believing their circumstances define their future. Experiences such as trauma, abuse, family instability, substance use, negative peer influences, or involvement with the juvenile justice system can make it difficult to see a different path forward. Without positive guidance and healthy coping skills, these challenges can become lifelong cycles.

Breaking Cycles was created to help young people recognize that their past does not determine their future. Through practical education, meaningful discussions, and evidence-informed strategies, participants learn how trauma affects thoughts, emotions, relationships, and decision-making while discovering healthy ways to respond to life's challenges.

This program focuses on building resilience rather than shame, hope rather than fear, and empowerment rather than punishment. Participants leave understanding that every positive choice creates an opportunity to build a different future for themselves, their families, and their communities.

At The Jane Doe Foundation, we believe prevention begins by helping young people recognize their value, develop confidence, and understand they have the power to break unhealthy cycles and create lasting change.

Because changing one life today can change generations tomorrow.
